What does a behaviour consultation involve?

Behavioural problems can be very involved and it is not possible to help pets with behavioural problems in a regular 15 minute veterinary consultation.  The consultation with owner(s) and pet(s) takes place in your home and will generally run for 2 to 3 hours.

Prior to the consultation, you will be asked to complete and return a behaviour questionnaire, to make sure that all issues can be covered during the actual consultation.

During the consultation, we will first discuss the problem(s) in more detail, so there will be plenty of opportunity to tell me anything which is not included in the questionnaire.  We will then discuss the diagnosis and explain why the behaviour problem is occurring.  Lastly, we will develop a treatment plan that is manageable for both you and your pet and spend some “hands on” time showing you how to practically implement the recommendations to modify your dog’s behaviour.

Subsequent to the consultation, you will receive a written report via e-mail and three months follow up via phone or email.  Your regular veterinarian will also receive a copy of the report.
